Marriage was institutionalized for the purpose of showing the world the devoted union between Christ and His beloved bride, Jerusalem. Once the kingdom is here there will no longer be the need for this object lesson. All of us will be part of that single union in the body of Christ. Genesis 2:24, tells us that a man and his wife become one flesh. You are not physically your wife and your wife is not physically you, of course, but this bond makes you one. This special bond is what Christ talked about between Him and each of us a bond of love forever that cannot be broken. This is the bond Christ has with His Father and what He was telling the people when He said, I and my Father are one. When we have both, the Father and the Son, we become the third strand in the cord of Ecclesiastes 4:12, tough and secure. Other men intertwine themselves with cords of vanity instead. Their cords will be broken. Our marriage vows with Christ are not to be broken by whoredom in worshipping any other gods including food, money or self-importance. This is committing whoredom against Gods word. Breaking commandments, either physically or in our hearts, is committing whoredom against him. This is why Jesus said, He who looks upon another woman, commits adultery in his heart. Love is the strongest power in the universe. God is this power. God is love and he shares this quality with us. Love is a natural instinct and mankind requires being loved in return for the love he gives. If we feel our love is not returned by someone we love, it is terribly painful. We are given feelings and emotions to help us understand our Creator and his emotions toward us, his children. The Lord has feelings, too. |
